Summer Storm

The painting plays warm against cool: the fiery red-orange center is hemmed in by blues on all sides, which gives it a sense of pressure and glow. It reads easily as an abstracted landscape — a heat-charged sky or burst of light over a dark horizon line, with water or land reflected in the cooler tones below. The energetic knife work and scratched lines add to the sense of movement and turbulent weather.
